James G. Nuckolls, MD

Dr. James G. Nuckolls is an internist with the Carilion Medical Group in Galax, Virginia. He received his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina, and completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Duke University Medical Center.
Dr. Nuckolls completed a fellowship in biomedical ethics at the University of Virginia and served as a USPHS Lieutenant Commander at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Nuckolls is a national speaker, and his major areas of interest are utilizing digital technology to enhance physician performance in primary care practice settings and in utilizing this technology to enhance education for primary care physicians. 

An editor of The Quality Indicator and Physician Practice Options, Dr. Nuckolls has authored or coauthored articles for the Journal of the American Medical Association, Internist, Hospital Practice, and Annals of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Nuckolls is a Master of the American College of Physicians and a former president of the American Society of Internal Medicine. He was elected to the Institute of Medicine of the American Academy of Sciences in 1992 and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Virginia School of Medicine.
